Upon visiting Barnsley Bunny Boarding in August this year, Poppy and Daisy two ‘Old English’ bunnies were only six months old. Despite being first time boarders, both bunnies immediately settled in to their new environment extremely well. Poppy and Daisy are friendly, gentle natured and exceptionally inquisitive as all young rabbits should be, and didn’t mind being stroked or picked up for cuddles. Following a dandelion and marigold hay breakfast, both bunnies devoted most of their mornings to playtime; they didn’t bother too much with the plastic play balls we provided but would run backwards and forwards, and jump on and off a wooden log tunnel placed in the centre of the hutch. Despite a few bunny droppings here and there, Poppy and Daisy were clean and preferred to use the litter tray provided. Afternoons were devoted to after lunch catnaps and it became evident from observing their daily behaviour that both bunnies were bonded well as a pair. Each bunny would take time out daily to sit and groom each other by licking each other’s faces, and at bedtime each would fall asleep in the bunny bed in spoons position. Poppy and Daisy had ravenous appetites and loved to share veggies at teatime; as you can see from the photograph, I was never quick enough to fill the food dish before a bunny would begin picking their favourite morsels from the veg and fruit salad bowl.
