Mr Guinea Pig also known as Malteser is quite a chatty and intelligent little guinea pig and I’m sure his owner won’t mind me mentioning how spoilt and pampered this little piggy is. We were lucky enough to meet and fuss Mr Guinea Pig when his owner introduced him to us while viewing our Rabbitry. Of course Mr Guinea Pig is not just any guinea pig – this little piggy has his own room at home, all to himself. To help him settle into the Rabbitry we were given a blue dressing gown (see photo), which we placed in a special bed, and also a fabric fleece tunnel specially designed for guinea pigs. Mr Guinea Pig loved hiding in his fleece tunnel and when he snuggled down into it, he couldn’t be seen. A very active guinea pig, he was quick off the mark if the hutch door was opened and he could run as fast as a bullet around the obstacles in the hutch. In fact he was quite athletic, and agile climbing on and off the log tunnel, and jumping over the highest point of the bunny bed, which he accomplished quite regularly, I think to show off. Malteser favoured my husband more than I, who would take him out of his hutch regularly each evening for a fifteen-minute fuss. He didn’t like me too much because I cleaned his hutch out each morning, and when I did he would show his annoyance by chuttering quite loudly. This much-loved piggy is unconditionally doted on by his owner and it’s easy to see why.
